About the class
Pots have personalities, and abstracted figures often form the bones of a piece. Pots can seem sassy, solemn, greedy, selfless, attentive-- these qualities are written with gesture in subtle and powerful ways. What can a piece's "pose" tell us about its inner life? How do we push and pull that pose to better communicate our ideas? In this class, we will make literal the link between pot and pose by diving into miniature figure sculpting. We will explore proportion, exaggeration for effect, and nuance in a figure. Ultimately, we will attach our figures to pinch pots and discuss how the pose and the pot can enmesh with or contrast each other.
