ABOUT

WHAT IS THIS PLACE?

Morning Ceramics was dreamed up in 2018 by newlyweds Alexa & Peter after seeing that Portland was badly in need of more ceramics access - tons of potters all dressed up and nowhere to go!

Instead of opening a traditional studio, the vision was to build ‘a community space for ceramic artists’ —a place where people could gather, learn, hang out, mess up, try again, and be part of something together. The idea was always about more than equipment or classes—it was about creating the space for people to connect while getting their hands messy.

SO WHAT DOES
THAT LOOK LIKE?

It looks like a space where total beginners and lifelong artists can work side by side.

Where teachers are often former members & members are often former students.

It looks like a kid in summer camp uncovering their love of creating with clay, or a 30-something finally taking the leap to join a workshop after years of thinking about it.

It’s a member quietly improving week after week, and a place where working artists can make their living.

A studio, yes, but also a crossroads where connections form and ideas take root.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Behind it all is a small & resilient team—here every day to take care of the space and the people in it. Got a weird glaze result? Want to run a new idea by someone? Can’t remember how to use the slab roller? That’s what we’re here for.

And we are so lucky to be able to do this work. To help people fall in love with ceramics for the first time, and to support so much of Portland’s artistic curiosity.

It’s truly a special place – it’s difficult to articulate, but oh so easy to feel.

HERE FOR YOU

If any of that sounds like something you'd like to be a part of, we'd love for you to stop by, whether it's joining us for a class, hosting a private event, teaching a workshop, joining our community membership, checking out a market, or just coming in to chat pottery with us!

You can find more information about what the studio has to offer right here on the website. Otherwise, we encourage you to book a tour with one of our staff members so that we can show you around the space, and answer any and all questions you might have about how Morning can help you on your clay journey.
