Creators' Clay Camp
Weeklong ceramics summer camp for grades 2-5
Details
Jun 29, 2026, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Morning Ceramics Studio, 239 SE 6th Ave, Portland, OR 97214, USA
About the class
Spend a warm summer week at the pottery studio, exploring the ins and outs of play, building, construction, expression, and exploration with clay!
About the Camp
More than just another camp, Morning Ceramics’ weeklong summer program is designed for kids headed into grades 2-5 in Fall 2026, who are curious about making and creating. This hands-on experience takes place in a real working studio, where young artists get to explore, experiment, and bring their ideas to life under the guidance of working, professional ceramicists.
This camp will focus on handbuilding & sculptural techniques.
We will explore the pottery wheel toward the end of the week, but it will not be the focus.
Creative Goals
Going beyond simply making projects, we’ll learn to think like an artist, experiment with new materials & ideas, and uncover the uniquely special connection of working with one's hands. Campers will not only get to experience the full process of making a piece (with finished projects ready for pick up a few weeks later!), but gain a deeper appreciation for creativity, craftsmanship, and the unique nuances of clay as an art making material.
Schedule
Each day is thoughtfully structured to encourage creativity, skill-building, and curiosity:
✨ Morning Warmup! – Getting our minds, hands, and sketchbooks ready to work!
✨ Demonstrations, Discussions, & Material Exploration – Hands-on, eyes-on, and dialogue based learning
✨ Snack Time – Nourishing our bodies & getting the creative juices flowing
✨ Dirty Work – The fun stuff! Releasing our ideas into the materials, and seeing our visions come to life!
✨ Lunch – Pausing to replenish & reorganize our thoughts & goals for the rest of the day
✨ Reflection & Clean Up – Reflecting on our experience throughout the day, journaling about what we learned, what we're proud of, and what we want to try next. Cleaning up and getting our space ready for the next day.
Lunch & Snacks: Please send campers with a nut-free lunch + snack + fresh water bottle each day!

Projects will explore various handbuilding & sculpture techniques throughout the week. To wrap up the week, campers will get a chance to try their hand at the potter’s wheel!
Led by Professional Ceramic Artists
This camp is taught by Angela R. & Carina K., both full time artists and two of Morning Ceramics’ resident makers. With years of experience in ceramics, children’s museum programming, and art education, both bring tried & true technical skill and an unparalleled warmth for clay, creating a space where kids can learn, explore, and grow as makers.
