About the class
Instructor: Erika
Join us as we jaunt into the expressive, story-telling, and character-driven world of sculpting. A deeper take on regular handbuilding, this sculpture class will turn the corner on traditional methods of pinching, coiling, and slabbing to uncover a fresh take on making. We’ll discuss how to get our seemingly-cosmic ideas onto paper, through the making process, and onto their final forms.
First we’ll delve into what it takes to build sound structures, creating practical frameworks for our fantastical ideas before moving onto texture & decoration. Rough up some areas, smooth down others, and refine. Add color, pattern, depth, and dimension, and that special something before we wrap it all up. Lastly, we’ll explore glazes – how to use them, where to use them, and where not to use them, to add that final polish.
From the first firm foundation, to the last delicate detail, we’ll be dreaming up unique characters, abstract feelings, wild expressions, and whatever else you find in between!
This class will focus on small-scale sculptures that fit in the everyday – up to 12” – and is for beginners & advanced artists alike.
Classes run from April 30 through June 18 on Wednesdays from 6pm to 9pm.
Class includes clay and firing allowance, house glazes, a personal tool kit, and 24 hours of instruction.
Students also have access to 3 hours of uninstructed, open studio time per week to practice what they've learned. Open studio is highly recommended to get the most out of the class!
Open Studio hours:
Wed - Sun: 10am - 5pm
