About the class
Instructor: Brett
Dive into the evergreen world of mug making in this 2-day bootcamp, led by full time production potter, Brett Wulc.
Learn how to transpose your existing style into the always popular form of a mug! We'll breakdown how to throw functional vessels that will hold your ideal amount of coffee, using bite-size steps that you can repeat to improve consistency, and productivity, all with the goal of creating market-ready mugs that customers will be jazzed to take home as solos or sets!
We’ll get comfortable with using throwing gauges as a tool for uniformity and tighten up on what efficiency looks like when it comes to centering, pulling walls, trimming, and shaping. And finally, we'll help you get a handle on what makes the pefect handle - looking at how to accentuate and embelish the feel and flow of your cylinders into cohesive final forms.
Students can expect to throw many mugs in practice, and keep 4-6 as part of the workshop. We'll bisque fire everything, ready for you to take home and glaze.
Experience recommended: Wheel throwing basics or intermediate equivalent
What to bring: Hand towel, apron, a notebook & pen, and throwing gauge (available as a optional add-on)
Schedule: Saturday Sep 27, 10am to 1pm (Throwing) & Sunday Sep 29, 10am to 1pm (Trimming + Handles)
