About the class

Instructor: Erika

Let out the growl of creativity in this beginner friendly, 3 week mini-class, all about crafting ceramic creatures! Under the guiding hands of seasoned monster maker, Erika Rier, this workshop series will guide you through each step of the making process, with no previous experience required!

  • Week 1 kicks off with transforming your curious concepts into tangible forms - think torsos, eyes, horns, feet, and wings! We’ll cover all the tips and techniques to create the right shape, size, and texture to bring your creature to life.

  • In Week 2, we'll add pops of bold color and mesmerizing patterns to give your creatures their distinctive charm. We’ll look at how to use design to accentuate the personality of your monsters, and some effective tricks to apply underglaze to tricky surfaces.

  • Week 3 wraps up with finishing design touches and a crash course in professional glaze application, giving your monsters their final coat of design.

Students can expect to leave with 2-3 individual monsters, with firing and glazing included as part of the workshop. Pieces will be ready to pick up a few weeks after the class has concluded.

  • Experience recommended: None! All you’ll need are some clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty and a good attitude!

  • What to bring: Hand towel, apron, and a notebook & pen.

  • What's included: Materials and tools for use during the workshop

  • What you'll be making: 2-3 lil' clay monsters (~4" tall)

  • Schedule: Sundays from 10am to 1pm - Jun 1 (Making), Jun 8 (Decorating), & Jun 15 (Glazing)
