About the class

Instructor: Carina

Porcelain is a timeless clay body, celebrated for its delicacy, elegance, and the warmth that it brings to pieces. Adding color opens up such a wide range of possibilities & this quick workshop will take that seemingly complex process and break it down into clear, easy-to-follow steps!

Over a few short hours, we’ll chat about a range of mixing methods before fully focusing in on a measurement-based approach that allows for consistent, repeatable results. We’ll begin by preparing our materials for accuracy – drying clay for proper measuring and transforming it into a smooth, uniform slip ready to take on color!

Together, we’ll create line blends and test tiles using carefully measured stain percentages, watching how colors shift through the range of concentrations – from brilliant blues to subtle yellows.

We’ll cover essential safety protocols for working with dry materials, along with thoughtful habits for both shared and personal studio spaces.

We’ll close with a discussion on using our newly-created colored porcelain – as a foundation, but also how to let small touches of color speak boldly for themselves.

Test tiles will be fired after the workshop, coming back to you as lasting references for your many projects to come!
