About the class
Instructor: Carina
Starting to work with porcelain can be daunting, not only due to its reputation as a difficult to handle clay body, but also because of its higher cost and trickier glaze fits. If you’ve ever found yourself captivated by the clean beauty of porcelain, but hesitant to dive in, this workshop is designed just for you!
In this session we’ll delve into the benefits of working with porcelain and tackle some of the common challenges. We'll have two different porcelain bodies to work with, each with their own personality. You’ll receive essential tips & techniques, along with ample wheel practice time under the expert guidance of instructor, and lover of all things porcelain, Carina Kooiman.
This 3-hour workshop is ideal for those with a good understanding of basic wheel-throwing and who are eager to experiment with a new material - whether it's your first attempt or you're looking to enhance your technique. The main focus of the session will be on experimentation and learning, but you’ll also have the opportunity to create and save a piece for firing if you choose.
Experience Level: Basic wheel throwing skills required
What to Bring:
Apron, washcloth, closed-toed shoes, & freshly-trimmed fingernails
Hair tie for long hair - leave dangling jewelry, rings, watches etc at home!
What's included: Materials and tools for use during the workshop
What you'll be making: 1 wheel thrown piece, with option to purchase and keep more!
Firing Information: Pieces will be bisque fired after the workshop
